On August 26, all of the seminarians returned to St. Charles Borromeo seminary to begin the new academic year.  For the next five days, the five new Pre-Theologians underwent a period of orientation presentations to help us get acclimated to this new environment.

The schedule is challenging, but it helps us to develop self-discipline and a solid prayer life.  Meditation in the chapel begins at 6:35 every morning, followed by Morning Prayer, Holy Mass, and breakfast.  At 8:50 we begin our classes, which last until the mid-afternoon.  After various meetinphilip_johnson_smgs or music practice, we pray Evening Prayer in common (as a group) before dinner and studying.  The Sacrament of Penance is available daily, and the Blessed Sacrament is exposed many times during the week.

There is an amazing sense of fraternity among the seminarians as we help each other advance in the spiritual life and pursue our vocations.  Classes begin and end with prayer, as do sports, meetings, and any other activity that we do.

Once a week, the Raleigh seminarians pray the rosary together before sitting together for dinner in the refectory.  Once a month, we go out to dinner as diocesan brothers at one of the local restaurants (kindly paid for by Bishop Burbidge!).  All of these factors help us to forge a close bond that will remain as we serve together as future (God-willing!) priests in the Diocese of Raleigh.

Please keep us all in your prayers, and know that we are praying for all of the faithful in the Diocese of Raleigh!
